The New Housing on the Block competition is about designing homes that work for everyone especially those who are older. The competition strongly emphasizes universal design applied to homes, allowing easy customization that can respond to changing needs. The competition aims to go beyond accessible design to generate designs that work well for people of all ages and abilities, including visitors.

Focusing on housing for the older generation makes sense because what works for us when we're older, can often make life just a little easier when we're younger. Designing now for later is just wise.

Two sites have been chosen. The link to information for each site is located below. One site is suitable for a duplex or triplex; the other is suitable for a cluster community. Designers can design for one site or both.
